US (FDA) Food Contact Material Testing

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), subordinate to the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare, is responsible for the management of drugs, food, biological products, cosmetics, and diagnostic supplies nationwide. All containers and materials that directly contact with food and beverage or human tongue must pass the FDA standard inspection certification before entering the U.S. market. Tested products include: 1. Food packaging materials: paper, plastic film, metal plastic aluminum foil 2. Glass ceramic products: various kinds of glass ceramic pots, bowls, plates, spoons, basins, cups, bottles, pots and other products 3. Food grade plastic products, plastic materials in contact with food or directly imported, mainly including nylon, ABS, ACRY, PU, PE, PC, PVC, PP, PR, PET, PO, PS, PSU, POM, PPS, EVA, SAN, SMM, EVA, BS, MEL, COPP, KRAT, ACRY, etc 4. Coating products: paraffin copolymer, PVC coating, powder coating, printing ink, etc. 5. Plumbing hardware products: water pipes, containers, pump valves, water heaters, etc. in contact with drinking water and tap water 6. Rubber resin products 7. Sealing material FDA test certification 8. Chemical additives: pigments, preservatives, antioxidants, surfactants, etc The main inspection standards for FDA food contact materials are as follows: (1) 21 CFR Part 177-2003, i.e. polymer substances. (2) 21CFR Part 175-2003: Adhesives, coating materials and metals; (3) 21CFR Part 176-2003: Paper and Board Products (4) 21CFR Part 178-2003: Food additives: additives, production aids and disinfectants (5) FDA CPG 7117.05: Requirements for silver plated products (6) FDA CPG 7117.06&07 Requirements for Glass, Ceramic and Enamel Ware Common FDA certification test items for food contact materials are as follows 1. Requirements for organic coating, metal and electroplating products U.S. FDA CFR 21 175.300 2. Requirements for paper products U.S. FDA CFR 21 176.170 3. Wood requirements U.S. FDA CFR 21 178.3800 4.
